@ Al – thanks man, appreciate the props!! Always good to know I'm writing some stuff people are happy with. I like Finchers work, it's just that the last few films have felt a little more "manufactured" than "created"…. I don't know, do you get the same feeling?

Just how much of the story is really true is anyone's guess but the brilliant script and Eisenberg's performance make it worth seeing in any case. Good Review!

i agree 100% with everything you say here. Beautifully made movie, for the most part, but then it is David F after all.

Kind of reminded me of "Zodiac". Nice film making but not much else.

Hi Rory – yeah, I was thinking about it after re-reading your review and leaving my own comments about just how anti-social everyone in The Social Network actually was – they're all in it for themselves, really, and it struck me as being fairly ironic. This shouldn't be seen as an indictment of Harvard, mind you, just a perception the film gives off. I'm sure nice, normal people go to Harvard too.

Ohhh, Unstoppable is a film I've been looking forward to seeing on BluRay. You sound like it disapppointed you – personally, I've learned to go into a Tony Scott film with low expectations anyway, so I doubt I'll be as unimpressed with it as you were!

Rodney — I love your thoughts about the anti-socialness inherent in the origins of Facebook and the rather arrogant, smugness of Zuckerberg and just about everyone else. I suppose it goes without saying that the incredibly rich, smart, and beautiful people wear their air of superiority on their shirt sleeves but it doesn't make us want to read their stories, watch their films, or gather round them to sing hymns at all hours. Also, "Nobody wants to see people sniping at each other, least of all people who should all have something better to do anyway, but Fincher’s film drags us into the world of Harvard bitchiness and backstabbing, and what a world it is" — Harvard bitchiness. Nice.

About as thorough and engaging a review I've read on this film. I agree, there is no denying the polish of a Fincherian film, everything from the cinematography to the score (love ya Reznor), casting, etc., etc., etc. There is something to be said though about well made and really good, memorable, a film that resonates and as you write "will stand to the test of time". I just fought my way through Tony Scott's Unstoppable (2010) with Denzel Washington, Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson — about as polished as any Scott film, yet it fails at the most basic level of plausible, character and story and ultimately arrives somewhere down the road, deflated, sketchy, unrewarding and inevitably forgettable.
