In reply to Rodney. While I'd love Hardy to have an Oscar, I don't really want this one to be it. Thought he was great but I couldn't understand what he was saying most of the time so I found his performance a little irritating. And this is coming from someone who understood every word he said as Bane and in Legend.

In reply to Grog the Ginger. Yeah, it's a little baffling, TBH. I really thought his performance was terrific. I do think Tom Hardy is a smokey for the Oscar though, even in spite of Hollywood's obvious adoration of Stallone's performance.

Great review for a great movie! Still really annoyed Benicio Del Toro didn't get an Oscar nom. Second best male supp performance behind Stallone for me.

I've been a big fan of director Denis Villeneuve for ages, so I was always going to enjoy this; it's methodical and tightly directed, a hallmark of a quality director working at the top of his game. Give this one another six months and then rewatch it, I'd be interested to see how far you've changed in your opinion of it.

Agreed. I remember being vaguely unimpressed immediately after having seen this (though I was surprised to see Benicio De Toro do a fairly decent job), but in retrospect, my feelings toward his have improved with age. Nice review! My recent post WTF: Black Mass (2015)
