What can\u00a0I say – whatever i say people will have different opinions. As a film that\u00a0I watched along with my Best Mate Katie, EVERY weekend for a very long time, I will always be a little teeny tiny bit biased. I earned such a predictable reputation that on one young birthday – lets say 9ish,\u00a0I was given a very carefully home-recorded VHS copy with a specially made cover insert drawn especially\u00a0for me by none other than…. Katie’s Mum. It had the Princess, Westley on\u00a0one knee\u00a0and a smiling sun on the front.<\/p>\n

Regardless of my personal history, this film is a stayer!\u00a0A bit like Willow<\/em> – for those who saw it whilst still young enough to fall in hopeless little-girl love with Mad Mardigan. <\/p>\n

The Princess Bride<\/em> had everything for everyone. ‘Nuff said.<\/p>\n

Dwarves, Giants, Swordsmen, Twue Love, Mawwiage, a villian.<\/p>\n

For those poor unfortunates that didn’t watch this film\u00a0in their youth,\u00a0I still believe it to carry humor for all ages.\u00a0 One memorable quote:<\/p>\n

Aboard Vizzini’s boat.]<\/em><\/p>\n

Inigo<\/strong>: That Vizzini, he can fuss<\/em>.Fezzik<\/strong>: Fuss… Fuss… I think he likes to scream at us<\/em>.Inigo Montoya<\/strong>: Probably he means no harm<\/em>.Fezzik<\/strong>: He’s really very short on charm<\/em>.Inigo Montoya<\/strong>: You have a great gift for rhyme.Fezzik<\/strong>: Yes, yes, some of the time.Vizzini<\/strong>: Enough of that.Inigo Montoya<\/strong>: Fezzik, are there rocks ahead?Fezzik<\/strong>: If there are, we’ll all be dead.Vizzini<\/strong>: No more rhymes now, I mean it!Fezzik<\/strong>: Anybody want a peanut?Vizzini<\/strong>: [screams in frustration]<\/em><\/p>\n

Hahahaha!<\/p>\n

The opulent costumes, the immense scenery and semi-scary rodents all\u00a0add up to a visual journey alongside the characters perils. The course of true love never runs smooth and short of a Shakespearean style tragedy few have had as much trouble as Westley and Buttercup. But in the stories, not even death is a problem and we see justice done, sweetly and neatly.<\/p>\n

Sorry\u00a0I can’t write more praise, have to go.<\/p>\n

That’s the short and short of it.<\/p>\n

Predictably, I give it a rookie rating of 10\/10 BUT I will add a clause to that – it is 10\/10 to people too young to notice that the ROUS’s are fake and badly done. To everyone else, i guess its 9 &1\/2. Sad but true.<\/p>\n
